“Thank you for much for your help with my knee! I was able to ride my bikefor the first time in 5 years this weekend” …Amy
A childhood diagnosis of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (formerly knows as Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) followed Amy into her adult years. JIA is the most common type of arthritis in children under the age of 16 years and may present with the following symptoms:
- Joint stiffness, especially in the morning.
- Pain, swelling, and tenderness in the joints.
- Limping (In younger children, it may appear that the child is not able to perform motor skills he or she recently learned.)
- Persistent fever.
- Weight loss.
- Irritability
Many children with JIA find that symptoms are relieved as they move into adulthood, while others will go on to experience Rheumatoid Arthritis. Amy experienced a flare up of symptoms four years ago following the birth of her baby. Amy’s goal was to be able to ride a bicycle with her two children. With incredibly hard work and ongoing dedication to her physiotherapy program, we were able to celebrate with Amy this weekend as she returned to her bike! We are so proud of you Amy and grateful that A Body In Motion Rehab could be a part of your healing journey!
