Vertigo? We Can Help!

Evidence has shown that vestibular rehabilitation can be effective in improving symptoms related to many vestibular (inner ear/balance) disorders. Those suffering with vertigo often experience dizziness, changes in balance and feelings of instability, and/or changes in vision or visual disturbances. Physiotherapists trained in Vestibular Rehab help to alleviate these symptoms, which in turn may alleviate other problems that may arise as a result of these symptoms including nausea and/or vomiting, lack of concentration, and fatigue.

Vestibular Rehabilitation is an individualized, exercise-based program which focuses on re-training the central nervous system. The brain re-learns how to process and coordinate information from the inner ear, the eyes (visual input) and the receptors in the body that respond to both stretch and pressure. Once an in-depth assessment is performed and the cause of symptoms is determined, your vestibular physiotherapist will utilize treatment techniques which may include maneuvers to correct the location of crystals within the inner ear, specific exercise to help the brain eliminate symptoms provoked by movement, vision therapy to improve the ability of the eyes to focus while the head is moving, and balance training with the ultimate goal of alleviating your symptoms and improving your quality of life!!
