@pelvichealthharmony “Is it normal to pee when I laugh? “
I hear this question A LOT and the short answer is no
. It breaks my heart to hear women say that they have been dealing with leakage issues for years
. This doesn’t have to be the new normal, bladder leakage is fixable!
Urinary incontinence is the loss of urine from the bladder
. There are different types of urinary incontinence, they include stress, urge, mixed incontinence, overflow and functional incontinence. The most prevalent types of incontinence are stress, urge and mixed (combination of stress & urge).
If you leak urine when you sneeze, cough, laugh or exercise this is called stress incontinence. It is the loss of urine when the pressure above the bladder is greater than the pressure below it.
If your pelvic floor muscles fail to activate to provide a sturdy closure to the base of the bladder during force (laughter, sneezing, exercise etc.) leakage occurs!
Incontinence can pose a huge impact on quality of life. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, know that there is help out there
